Text to STL
Type what you want and the X3D Studios design studio turns it into a 3D model, repairs the mesh and checks that it will print. Download it as STL, 3MF and OBJ, or have us print it on our own farm in Austin, Texas and ship it to you.
- Fast Draft in ~20 to 30 seconds
- Mesh repair
- Printability review
- STL, 3MF, OBJ
From a sentence to a printable file
A text-to-3D model predicts a shape from your words, then the studio makes that shape fit to print. How text-to-3D AI works explains what happens inside.
- 1
Describe it
One object, its overall shape and a detail or two, in up to 500 characters. - 2
Generate
A Fast Draft takes about 20 to 30 seconds, Hi-Fi about 4 to 5 minutes. You can close the tab while it runs. - 3
Repair and review
The mesh is welded, holes are filled and it is auto-oriented, then checked for a closed surface, wall thickness, overhangs and fit on the plate. - 4
Download or print
Download STL, 3MF and OBJ, or order it printed, priced from a real slice at the size you choose.
What it costs
Generation is paid in credits, and printing in dollars. A new account starts with 5 credits, credits do not expire, and a failed generation gives its credits back. That is enough to try it, not an unlimited free tier: packs and plans are on pricing.
| What | Costs |
|---|---|
| Fast Draft from a text prompt | 1 credit |
| Hi-Fi from a text prompt | 2 credits |
| Downloading the model | Nothing extra |
| Printing it | By weight: PLA $0.12/g, at least $1.00 per part, plus shipping. Never credits |
Most text-to-3D tools stop at the file
A generator hands you a mesh, and whether it prints is your problem. The studio does the next part too:
- Repair: the mesh is welded, holes filled, winding fixed and auto-oriented, and the repair is reported to you rather than done quietly.
- Review: a server-side check on the measured geometry. A model marked Needs redesign cannot be ordered, so you find out before you pay, not when the print fails.
- Price: the print is quoted from a real slice of the model at the size you choose, not from a guess.
- Print: one click sends it to our farm in Austin, Texas, and it ships to you.

Prompts that print well
The best text-to-3D prompts has worked examples, and the studio guide more. The short version:
- One object, no scene. A backdrop or a beach becomes geometry you have to print.
- Name the form, then what it sits on: “squat hexagonal desk planter, thick rim, flat bottom” beats “a nice planter”.
- Pose and stance, not render words. “Sitting, tail curled around its feet” changes the mesh; “8k, very detailed” does nothing to it.
- Leave out dimensions. Generation has no scale, so a number in the prompt is decoration; you set the size when you order.
- Lettering comes out mushy far more often than legible, so add text in your own tools afterwards.
- Use the Avoid field for what generators love to add: a plinth, a base slab, a nameplate.
- For fits, threads and exact sizes, use CAD instead and upload the STL.
What you download
STL, 3MF and OBJ, normalised to 170 × 160 × 170 mm, half a plate. When you order a print you scale it from 50% to 300%. A model that failed the review can still be downloaded and fixed in your own tools.
Questions about text to STL
Is the text to STL generator free?
A new account starts with 5 free generation credits. A Fast Draft from a text prompt costs 1 credit and Hi-Fi 2, so that is a few models to try it with, not an unlimited free tier. Credits do not expire, a failed generation refunds its credits, and packs and plans are on /pricing. Ordering a print never spends a credit.
How long does text to 3D take?
A Fast Draft takes about 20 to 30 seconds and Hi-Fi about 4 to 5 minutes. It runs as a background job, so you can close the tab and the model is waiting when you come back.
Is the STL ready to 3D print?
It is repaired before you see it — welded, holes filled, winding fixed and auto-oriented — and then reviewed on the server for a closed surface, wall thickness, overhangs and whether it fits the plate. A model that passes can be ordered printed straight away; one marked Needs redesign cannot be ordered, but you can still download it and fix it yourself.
Can AI make a functional part with exact dimensions?
No. Text to 3D makes shapes, not dimensioned features: a number in the prompt is decoration, and threads, bearing seats and press fits will not come out to a tolerance. Model those in CAD and upload the STL at /print instead.
What file formats can I download?
STL, 3MF and OBJ. Every model is normalised to 170 × 160 × 170 mm, and you set the real size, from 50% to 300%, when you order a print.
Can you print the model for me?
Yes, from the same page: pick a material, colour and size and the print is priced from a real slice at the per-gram rate, PLA $0.12/g with a $1.00 minimum per part. It is printed in Austin, Texas and shipped.
How long can my prompt be?
Up to 500 characters. Shorter usually works better: name the object, its overall shape and one or two details that matter, then refine with Edit model rather than a longer prompt.
