3D Print Cost Calculator
A 3D print costs its weight times the material’s rate per gram. Type the grams your slicer shows and the choices you would make at checkout, and this works out the price with the same rules the X3D Studios checkout uses: the per-gram rates, quality, quantity breaks, colours, print speed and shipping.

What a few prints cost
Each row is priced by the calculator above as this page loads, ordered with Print & Ship at Normal print (included) with standard US shipping.
| Example | Billed | With US shipping | |
|---|---|---|---|
| A small bracket, 21 g of PLA | 21 g at $0.12/g | $2.52 | $9.52 |
| A keyring, 6 g of PLA | 6 g at $0.12/g | $1.00 | $8.00 |
| A detailed figure, 60 g of PLA at Premium layers | 60 g at $0.21/g | $12.60 | $19.60 |
| An outdoor mount, 150 g of ASA | 150 g at $0.14/g | $21.00 | $28.00 |
| Ten clips, 40 g of PETG each | 40 g at $0.12/g × 10 | $43.20 | $50.20 |
| A 5-colour sign, 136 g of PLA as sliced | 136 g at $0.21/g | $53.56 | $60.56 |
Why the real quote can differ from an estimate
This page multiplies the grams you give it. The quote on /print measures them, by slicing your file with the farm’s own printer and filament presets. Where a weight guessed from a model goes wrong:
- Walls and infill. A part is solid walls around a partly filled inside, so its weight is not its volume times the plastic's density. A thin, wall-heavy part usually weighs more than a volume estimate says.
- Supports and brim. They are plastic, so they arrive as grams and are paid for as grams; nothing is added for them on top.
- Purge, for a colour print. Every filament change throws some plastic away, and a colour plate changes on most layers. Slice it in its colours and the purge is inside the weight.
- Rounding. The billed weight is rounded up to the whole gram, the way a slicer shows it.
How pricing works gives every step of the calculation, and bulk printing covers larger runs.
Questions about 3D printing cost
How much does it cost to 3D print something?
Its weight times the material's rate. Per gram, all-in: PLA, PETG and ABS $0.12; ASA $0.14; Flexible TPU $0.25. A 21 g PLA part is $2.52, a 150 g one $18.00. Each part costs at least $1.00, and postage, Priority print and a fifth colour are added when they apply. The grams come from slicing the actual file, so upload it at /print for the exact figure.
What does the per-gram rate include?
The filament and the normal machine time together, which is why it is the only line for a simple part. It does not include postage, Priority print ($5, or 10% of the items when that is more), the $25.00 second-AMS fee at 5 or more colours, or Premium · 0.1mm, which multiplies the rate by 1.75. A colour outside the 12 stock colours is $0.20/g (Flexible TPU keeps its own $0.25/g). A plate you sliced yourself whose measured print time is longer than its weight explains also pays for the extra hours, at $1.50 an hour.
Why is my real quote different from this estimate?
Because the calculator multiplies the grams you type, and the real quote measures them. Our slice of your file counts the walls, the infill, the supports and, for a colour print, the purge from every filament change, and it rounds the weight up to the whole gram. A weight guessed from the model's volume usually undercounts a thin, wall-heavy part. Upload the file at /print and the price you see is the one you pay.
How do I find out what my model weighs?
Slice it in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer and read the filament used, in grams, from the slice preview: that is the number to type here. Or skip the slicer and upload the STL, GLB or 3MF at /print, which slices it for you and shows the price without an account.
Is there a minimum order?
No order minimum and no setup fee. One part is a normal order. Each part costs at least $1.00, so a very small part is priced at that floor rather than by its weight.
Is there a discount for printing more than one?
Yes: 5% off from 5 units, 10% off from 10 units, taken off the whole line. Nothing above 10% is offered on the website. It applies where a quantity is priced as one job: Print & Ship on /print, the print API and the MCP server. A cart line is priced one unit at a time and multiplied, so it does not pick up the break. Standard US postage is free on $49.50 or more of goods in the cart and through the print API; Print & Ship charges flat postage whatever the total. /bulk-3d-printing covers batch work.
Why is 3D printing so expensive?
For a small part it usually is not: a 21 g PLA part is $2.52. What costs money is machine time — a large or finely layered part can occupy a printer for many hours — and the fact that every copy takes that time again. There is no mould to pay for, so the price per part stays flat from the first to the last; for many thousands of identical parts injection moulding becomes the cheaper way, which /docs/farm/bulk explains.
